Renaming 66th — again

The Sumner City Council, minus an excused and absent Councilmember Cindi Hochstatter, unanimously passed a motion to change the name of 66th St. Ct. E. to Auto Lane — albeit not without much discussion.
Previously, 66th St. Ct. E. was changed to John Deere Lane, then changed back with the the sale of Sumner Tractor. Now, due to the addition of Jay Lee’s Honda of Sumner, as well as the adjacent Riverside Ford, council thought it was a good idea to change the name to Auto Lane.
Still, many of the members wanted to make sure there would be no confusion to either residents and out-of-towners.
“If we’ve got two names (for one street), I’ve got a concern,” Councilmember Steve Allsop said.
In the end, after a discussion that lasted nearly 20 minutes, council agreed to make the street sign read “Auto Lane” but also put a sign above it that states that it is on the 6600th block.
“We’re going to have to figure out a way to do that that doesn’t confuse people,” City Administrator John Doan said.
