One high school basketball team in East Pierce County has already clinched a berth in the Class 1A boys basketball state tournament. The Cascade Christian Cougars did that with a convincing victory against Vashon Island on Feb. 20.
Here is a list of local teams still alive in a quest to advance to the state basketball tournament in their respective classifications as of Feb. 23: Bonney Lake Panthers girls basketball team (3A), Sumner Spartans girls basketball team (3A), Rogers Rams girls basketball team (4A), Puyallup Vikings girls basketball team (4A), Cascade Christian Cougars girls basketball team (1A), Chief Leschi Warriors boys basketball team (2B) and the Puyallup Vikings boys basketball team (4A).
I’m sure hoping the majority of these teams can advance to the state tournament!

One of the biggest wrestling tournaments in the northwest will take place at the Tacoma Dome this weekend. The Mat Classic will draw a wide array of premier grapplers from across Washington. The Rogers Rams boys basketball team saw its season come to an end after suffering a 73-59 loss to the Bethel Braves in an SPSL South tiebreaker contest on Feb. 9 at Emerald Ridge High School.
It was the final high school basketball game for Rams seniors John Lesage, Kyle Weston, Drew Crowell and Sean Tollan.

The ninth annual Emerald Ridge High School junior jaguar fastpitch clinic for girls between eight years old and 14 years old will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 20 at Emerald Ridge High School. For more information, e-mail head coach Lynn Wardle at wardlelg@puyallup.k12.wa.us

A trio of East Pierce County teams will look to capture accolades at the Class 4A bowling tournament in University Place this weekend.
The Emerald Ridge Jaguars, Rogers Rams and Puyallup Vikings bowling teams are prepared for the season finale at Narrows Plaza Bowl. The Jaguars are the defending state champions.
